Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 has hit its fair share of roadblocks. With Marvel rehiring of director James Gunn, however, the movie seems to be back on track. One character’s fate in Avengers: Endgame points towards a potential plot for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Warning: Avengers Endgame spoilers ahead.
Gamora’s fate was a major question mark for fans going into Avengers: Endgame.
Almost everyone was convinced those who had been ‘snapped’ in Avengers: Infinity War would be brought back.
But Gamora wasn’t snapped – she was a victim of Thanos’ unrelenting need for the Infinity Stones.
Thanos sacrificed his adopted daughter for the Soul Stone by throwing her off the edge of the mountain on Vormir.
But despite her and Nebula’s reconciliation, her reunion with the rest of the Guardians does not go as smoothly.
In the final moments of Endgame, Thor has joined Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord) aboard his ship, the Benatar.
Quill is running a software program to search for Gamora, who is listed as missing.
So, could this be part of the plot of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3?
Speaking about the plot, Gunn said: “I think the third movie is going to continue this trilogy the story of this iteration of this Guardians of the Galaxy.
“I think we’re going to come to an epic conclusion of who the Guardians are why and why they were bought together and I can’t wait to tell that story to the people.”
His words are, as one would expect, wholly obtuse, leaving fans to fill the vacuum of information with wild speculation.
We do know Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will take place after Avengers: Endgame.
Gunn himself confirmed this via Twitter in May 2017, further dispelling rumours the threequel could have begun prior to Infinity War.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 has not been given a confirmed release date yet.
But Vol 3 could see a 2022 release date with Production Weekly having reported the threequel will start filming in February 2021.
Avengers: Endgame is now playing in cinemas.
