Man Utd fan Rory McIlroy explains why Man City will beat Liverpool to Premier League title | Football | Sport

Manchester United supporter Rory McIlroy believes Manchester City are on a different level to everyone else in the Premier League – even Liverpool.

City pipped Liverpool to the title last season, finishing just one point clear of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The two teams are widely expected to once again be going head-to-head this term for top spot.

Liverpool are the only team to have a 100 per cent record after four matches this season, with City in second with 10 points.

McIlroy admits Manchester City and Liverpool are streets ahead of everyone else in the top flight.

But he reckons City will once again have even more in the tank than their rivals.

“Honestly at this point I think Man City and Liverpool are on a different level to anyone else,” McIlroy told Sky Sports News.

“I actually think Man City are even on a different level than Liverpool right now.

“I can see Man City’s B team finishing in the top four this year if they put one out.”

McIlroy was today crowned PFA Tour Player of the Year, beating World No 1 Brooks Koepka.

He was also asked what he thinks of Manchester United’s season so far.

And the Northern Irishman admits supporters need to be patient in challenging for major honours again.

“I think people that support Man United have to be a little bit patient,” McIlroy added.

“I think it’s great that he’s giving these youngsters a chance and he’s playing a lot of the young guys and I think that’s the right thing to do.

“I really feel like it’s a rebuilding phase in the club and hopefully in a couple of years time, with a bit more experience, these younger guys can start to flourish and we can get back contending for Premier Leagues and Champions Leagues and all that stuff.”
