Lewis Hamilton was hit with a 10-second stop and go penalty in the Italian Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver received the penalty for entering the pit lane when it was closed. The race was red-flagged after Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc crashed going through the Parabolica in Monza.
To serve the penalty, Hamilton must enter the pit box, stop for 10 seconds before rejoining the race.
“How soon do I have to take this penalty?” Hamilton said on his radio.
His Mercedes team replied: “We will be taking it straight away.”
Hamilton was leading the Italian Grand Prix when he received the penalty.
The 35-year-old started on pole after setting the fastest lap in Formula 1 history during Saturday’s qualifying session.
