Rebecca trailer: Is Rebecca on Netflix adapted from a book? | Films | Entertainment

Rebecca has been adapted for stage and screen a number of timea, with the first stage adaptation written by du Maurier herself in 1939.

The most famous of these adaptations is undoubtedly from Alfred Hitchcock, whose movie won the Academy Award for Best Film.

In the film, Laurence Olivier stars as Maxim de Winter, while Joan Fontaine stars as the new Mrs de Winter, while Judith Anderson played the forever loyal Mrs Danvers – though her loyalty is clearly to the wrong person.

This film, however, took some major twists and diversions from the original, mainly in the fate of Rebecca herself.

This was due to the Hollywood Production Code, who asserted the person responsible for the death of Rebecca – if she had been murdered – would have to be punished for the crime, which was clearly not in the vision of the film according to Hitchcock.
