Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s defensive crisis has continued to worsen during the international break with the club making their stance clear on their plans for the January transfer window. Liverpool made the decision back in the summer not to replace Dejan Lovren with Klopp happy to use Fabinho as his fourth-choice centre-back.
But the Brazilian will now be expected to be called upon to play in defence on a regular basis with both Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk recovering from surgery.
Van Dijk ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament last month in the Merseyside Derby against Everton.
Joel Matip was out injured at the time while Fabinho picked up a knock in the Champions League, leaving Gomez as the only senior centre-back option at Anfield for a few weeks.
The Cameroonian was able to make his return in time to face Manchester City before the international break, lining up alongside Gomez.
