Donald Jr, 43, was quick off the mark – posting ‘NOT GUILTY’ immediately after the Senate vote, before branding the proceedings a “show trial”. He even shared a photoshopped meme of a topless Donald Sr in boxing attire, with the caption: ‘Back to back impeachment champ’.
The eldest son wrote alongside the bizarre post: “When the establishment hates you and wants to prevent you from ever running again you know you’re doing something right.”
He also remarked: “Now maybe it would be nice if the senators stopped putting on show trials for free air time and actually started working for the American people for a change.
“Beating these establishment clowns twice after years of BS and under unprecedented circumstances is a badge of honour.”
Eric, 37, was concise in his celebration, simply posting ‘2-0’ – perhaps in reference to both occasions his father has been acquitted of impeachment charges.
In February 2020, the House acquitted Mr Trump Sr of two charges, abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
It followed allegations he had solicited foreign interference in the 2020 presidential election and obstructed a subsequent inquiry.
In February 2021, the House acquitted Mr Trump Sr of the charge of “incitement of insurrection” after it alleged he incited the January 6 US Capitol siege.
The Senate vote of 57-43 fell short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict Trump on the charge after a five-day trial.
In a statement released afterwards, Mr Trump Sr hinted at a comeback, writing: “We have so much work ahead of us, and soon we will emerge with a vision for a bright, radiant, and limitless American future.”
