The name of the Steam sale comes from a yearly period in Japan when tonnes of national holidays happen close together.
Holidays such as The Emperor’s Birthday and Children’s Day all happen during Golden Week, and many Japanese companies shut down completely during this period.
Golden Week is the longest vacation period of the year in Japan, and if you ever manage to be in Japan around this time you’ll find likely Shrines and popular attractions packed to the brim.
And to mark this huge occasion in the Japanese calendar, Steam look set to offer bumper discounts on some top Japanese games.
Last year’s Golden Week sale on Steam offered discounts on games from iconic Japanese franchises such as Resident Evil, Dark Souls, Tekken and Metal Gear Solid.
