A number of Premier League stars have been banned for five days by FIFA after they were not released by their clubs during the international break. The measures will affect Liverpool, Manchester City, Leeds, Manchester United and Chelsea.
Premier League clubs have been informed that they will not be able to use their Brazilian internationals that were blocked from joining up with the team for the international break, according to The Times.
Alisson, Fabinho, Fred, Thiago Silva, Gabriel Jesus, Ederson and Raphinha are the players in question and will not be able to feature for five days.
Meanwhile, Everton winger Richarlison has been granted an exemption after representing Brazil at the Olympic Games.
The affected clubs decided against releasing their players for World Cup qualifiers in South America as they would have had to quarantine upon arriving back in England.
The Brazilian Football Association then asked FIFA to enforce rules preventing the aforementioned stars from returning to action for their clubs.
The bans will affect this weekend’s Premier League fixtures and the upcoming Champions League group stage ties in midweek.
